Set of Antwerp Pharmacy Bottles with Original Labels, ca. 1900–1930

A decorative set of two antique glass pharmacy bottles, originating from a former Antwerp pharmacy and preserved with their original labels, glass stoppers and traces of their former contents.

Dimensions: clear bottle height 19 cm; amber bottle height 23 cm.

The larger bottle is made from warm amber-coloured glass and has a broad cylindrical form with a distinctive glass stopper. Its dark pharmaceutical label bears an old Latin product inscription and displays attractive wear and discolouration that enhance its historic character.

The smaller rectangular bottle is made from clear glass and retains the original paper label of E. Van Huffelen, pharmacist in Antwerp. The timeworn cream-coloured contents, aged paper and traces on the glass give the bottle an authentic appearance that reflects its former use.

Together, the contrasting shapes, glass colours and labels create a particularly atmospheric composition. These pharmacy bottles would make a striking addition to a cabinet of curiosities, display cabinet, bathroom, shop interior or collection of medical and pharmaceutical objects.

In good antique condition, with wear, staining, discolouration, losses to the labels and signs of use consistent with their age and original purpose. One of the glass stoppers has some damage, as shown in the photographs. The remaining contents are decorative only; the bottles are not suitable for storing food, drinks or other products intended for use.

An authentic and characterful pair from a historic Antwerp pharmacy setting.
