Set of Arita-yaki Yunomi Tea Bowls with Blossoms, 1980s
Atmospheric set of five Japanese tea bowls (yunomi) from Arita, the porcelain town in Saga that has been renowned for its fine tableware for centuries.
Dimensions: height 8.5 cm, diameter 11.5 cm.
The bowls are made of light, thin-walled porcelain and have a softly rounded shape that feels very comfortable in the hand.
Complete set of 5 pieces, in perfect condition. Marked in underglaze blue on the base and accompanied by the original Arita-yaki leaflet.
The exterior is decorated in a very delicate peach-pink tone, as if the colour has been brushed on in transparent layers. Over this, small white blossoms with warm yellow centres have been painted. Along the inner rim runs a fresh light-blue band that contrasts beautifully with the crisp white of the porcelain. The overall impression is light, soft and cheerful – perfect for bringing a touch of spring to the table all year round.
In a contemporary interior these yunomi are surprisingly versatile: ideal for green tea, hojicha or herbal infusions, but also lovely for dessert, yoghurt, rice or a small soup. As a set they also look beautiful on an open shelf or in a display cabinet, a gentle pastel accent that adds an immediate hint of Japanese atmosphere.
