Product Details

Sculptural ikebana vase from the Shigaraki tradition, featuring a powerful rounded form and a strikingly graphic surface. The piece dates from the 1970s and is crafted from coarse stoneware with a lively dark glaze that shifts from deep anthracite to silvery grey.

Dimensions: height 20 cm, diameter 20 cm.

The spherical vase has a narrow opening at the top and a subtle asymmetrical relief on the shoulder, with impressed motifs and an organic line incision. The surface reveals the typical Shigaraki texture, where the nuances of the firing process remain beautifully visible.

The vase bears an unreadable kiln mark on the underside.

In perfect condition – a fine example of Japanese studio pottery where simplicity, material, and craftsmanship converge.

This piece is highly suitable for ikebana flower arrangements, yet even without flowers it stands as a sculptural statement in its own right.

The combination of restrained form and expressive surface makes it a powerful accent in both modern and wabi-sabi interiors.
