Product Details

It is an important creation of Watanabe Masao, one of the foremost kokeshi artists.

Watanabe Masao, was born in 1917 in Fukushima prefecture and received his training in the processing of traditional Kokeshi from the very important artisan Tatsuo Sato.
In the 1950s he started studying a new way of 'shaping' kokeshi and for this reason he is considered one of the founders of modern kokeshi (Sosaku Kokeshi).
His kokeshi faces almost unanimously depict a universal theme of 'innocence' (mushin). His works have been awarded multiple times and are on permanent display at the Nuremberg Toy Museum in Germany.
Dimensions: height 11,8 inch, diameter 2,8 inch.
Very good vintage condition.
