Cheerful Hotei, Buddha kokeshi from the 1950s-1960s.

This kokeshi is beautifully handpainted and decorated.

Dimensions: height 16 cm, diameter 12 cm. The Hotei is signed at the bottom by the maker: Togatta Sakuta.

Hotei is one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese mythology and religion. He is often depicted as a cheerful, serene figure with a large belly and a smiling face. Hotei is associated with luck, abundance, good health, and contentment. In Japanese culture, he is often seen as a symbol of prosperity and wealth, and his images are frequently used in decorative items such as kokeshi dolls.
