Vintage Gunma Kokeshi by Miyama Keiji, 1970s

Beautiful vintage Gunma kokeshi by Miyama Keiji けいじ. The wooden doll has a soft, rounded form with a large black hairstyle and a raised topknot. The face is finely detailed with subtle eye lines, small lashes and a red accent at the mouth.

Dimensions: height 21 cm, diameter 9 cm.

The warm red kimono is richly decorated with graphic leaf motifs in red, black, green and gold-toned accents. The combination of the full silhouette, deep colour and refined decoration gives this kokeshi a strong decorative presence.

A characterful collector’s piece within the Japanese sōsaku kokeshi tradition, beautiful as a warm and elegant interior accent. Signed on the underside.

Condition: beautiful vintage condition with light signs of use consistent with age; well preserved and decoratively strong.
