Vintage Japanese Hibachi, 1930s – Decorative Plant Stand
An elegant, cylindrical hibachi from Japan, crafted in the 1930s. Traditionally used as a small charcoal brazier to keep rooms warm, this piece now serves as a refined and versatile interior accent.
Dimensions: height 26 cm, diameter 27 cm.
The surface features lacquer on wood in the distinctive Negoro-nuri style — a traditional technique in which layers of red and brown lacquer are applied and gently worn away to reveal a rich, organic texture with depth and movement.
Inside sits a removable copper liner, originally used to hold hot coals. The copper has beautifully aged, showing natural patina and green-blue oxidation that enhance its authentic character.
Today, this hibachi serves as a timeless decorative object with contemporary appeal — ideal as a plant stand, flower pot or centerpiece in a wabi-sabi or modern interior.
The warm interplay of red, brown, and copper tones makes it a uniquely versatile piece — a subtle statement combining Japanese craftsmanship with understated elegance.
A genuine artifact that bridges tradition and contemporary design with effortless beauty.
