Vintage Kokeshi by Tsuneyuki Kikumusume, “Chrysanthemum Girl”, 1979
This kokeshi doll was created by the Japanese artist Tsuneyuki and is titled Kikumusume, which means “Chrysanthemum Girl.”
Dimensions: Height 21 cm, base diameter 11.5 cm.
It is a beautiful example of sōsaku kokeshi from the 1970s, signed and dated 1979 on the bottom by the artist.
The piece is in very good condition.
The doll has a calm, serene expression. Her short, bob-style haircut enhances the quiet elegance of the design. The black kimono is richly decorated with chrysanthemums in gold, white, and copper tones, subtly accented with fine dots at the center of each flower. A red ribbon and pink hameri (kimono collar) add a playful touch of color to the dark background.
A refined and symbolic piece of Japanese folk art — perfect for collectors of sōsaku kokeshi, floral motifs, or authentic Japanese aesthetics.
