Vintage Sōsaku Kokeshi “Kantsubaki / Camellia Girl” by Kazuo Takamizawa, 1970s

Special vintage sōsaku kokeshi by Kazuo Takamizawa, titled “Kantsubaki” or “Camellia Girl”, referring to the winter camellia. The doll is made from beautifully warm wood with a lively natural grain and has a soft rounded form, with a characteristic hairstyle, incised hair lines and a small mage-style topknot.

Dimensions: height 18 cm, diameter 8 cm.

The body is subtly decorated with large camellia flowers, partly carved or burned into the wood and accented with dark pigment. The calm facial expression, small red detail and natural wood pattern give this piece an exceptionally warm and refined presence.

A strong collector’s piece within the Japanese sōsaku kokeshi tradition, showing the sculptural simplicity and poetic decoration typical of Takamizawa’s work. Signed/marked on the underside.

Condition: beautiful vintage condition with light signs of use consistent with age; well preserved and decoratively very strong.
