Product Details

Elegant vintage sōsaku kokeshi by Sato Suigai, born in Gunma in 1920. The wooden doll has a refined form and wears a warm red kimono, richly decorated with peonies and an asanoha motif — 麻の葉 — the traditional Japanese hemp leaf pattern, often associated with growth and protection.

Dimensions: height 32 cm, diameter 10 cm.

Sato Suigai began his training at a young age under Suiun Komuro and became an award-winning artist within the creative kokeshi tradition. His work is appreciated for its combination of gentle expression, decorative strength and classic Japanese motifs.

A special collector’s piece within the Japanese sōsaku kokeshi tradition, with a warm and elegant presence. Beautiful as a refined Japanese interior accent or as an addition to a high-quality kokeshi collection.

Signed on the underside and stamped with the artist’s hanko.

Condition: very good vintage condition with minimal signs of use; well preserved and decoratively strong.
