Vintage Sōsaku Kokeshi with Temari Motif, 1980s

Vintage sōsaku kokeshi from the 1980s, maker unknown. The wooden doll has an elegant, slender form with a large black hairstyle, a raised hair element and a small red accent. The face is expressively detailed with round eyes and fine lash lines.

Dimensions: height 20 cm, diameter 8 cm.

The red kimono is decorated with temari balls: traditional Japanese handballs and symbols of good fortune, known for their colourful geometric patterns. The warm red colour, black linework and gold-toned details give this kokeshi a playful yet refined character.

A charming collector’s piece within the Japanese sōsaku kokeshi tradition, beautiful as a small decorative accent in a stylish interior.
