Product Details

This refined wall panel is executed in Wajima lacquerware and combines a clean, graphic design with warm materials.

Dimensions: height 31 cm, width 38 cm, depth 2 cm.

At the centre sits a deep black lacquer plaque featuring three koi arranged in a flowing circular composition. The fish are rendered with delicate gold lines in the fins and subtle colour gradations with red accents. Behind it, a field of pale, rounded vertical wooden slats adds warmth and texture, framed by a glossy black lacquer surround with cylindrical corner elements. The contrast between natural wood and dense lacquer gives the piece depth and a distinctly modern look.

Condition: very good. A design/atelier seal is present in the lower left corner of the lacquer plaque. The reverse retains the original cord hanging system and the accompanying Japanese text card.

Summary of the Japanese text on the back (free translation)
The text opens with a short poetic reference to Yoshitsune and his entourage, evoking a remote place where the wind from sea and mountains is most prominent. It then introduces Wajima as a traditional lacquerware region, highlighting how craftsmanship and local conditions shaped a distinct lacquer tradition. The text closes by presenting the panel as an interior decorative piece, with a polite wish to continue appreciating it for many years to come.
