Small Japanese Tansu Drawer Chest, 1920s

Dimensions: height 33 cm, width 46 cm, depth 34 cm.

The piece is made in beautifully aged blackened wood. The upper drawer is shallower and suitable for smaller items, while the lower drawer is deeper and fitted with a metal lock plate and handle.

Across the whole chest, charming signs of use are visible: characterful wear along the edges, old repairs and small adjustments carried out over the years. This gives it a lived-in, honest look – you can tell this piece has already had many lives.

In a contemporary interior it works perfectly as a small storage piece for writing utensils, documents, candles or other small items you like to keep close at hand. On top, there is space for a small still life with ikebana, ceramics, a bonsai or a stack of favourite books.
