Low Tansu Chest of Drawers, c. 1900, Japan

A low Japanese tansu with two spacious drawers and a warm, dark brown wood patina.

Dimensions: height 49 cm, width 86 cm, depth 42.5 cm.

The wood grain stands out against the black frame. Round metal lock plates, curved drawer pulls and carrying handles on the sides give the cabinet its character.

The two drawers offer generous space for textiles, books and other belongings. Its low form also makes it a beautiful side table or low sideboard, with a lamp, vase or ikebana arrangement on top. The aged wood brings warmth to a contemporary interior.

In lovely antique condition, with signs of use and occasional narrow gaps caused by the natural movement of the wood. Both drawers are functional.
