Antique Japanese Writing Chest, Suzuri Tansu, 1890s

Compact wooden writing chest with four practical drawers, an open compartment for paper, and a convenient storage space with a lid on top.

Dimensions: height 35 cm, width 33 cm, depth 24 cm.

The sides feature elegant cut-out details, the drawers slide smoothly, and the original handles were replaced in the past with rope pulls—functional and perfectly in keeping with the piece’s character. The wood shows a deep patina with traces of use that reveal its long history.

A versatile and decorative object that naturally finds its place on a desk, sideboard, or in a studio. Ideal for pens, notes, and small tools, while adding an authentic accent of Japanese calm and simplicity to any interior.
