Large Traditional Yajirō Kokeshi, 'Daruma' by Morimasa Sato, Japan
This impressive vintage kokeshi doll is a beautiful example of the Yajirō style from Miyagi Prefecture, signed by the renowned master kokeshi artisan Morimasa Sato.

The doll features a refined, serene facial expression with characteristic red brushstroke accents around the face. The body is adorned with a striking depiction of Daruma (達磨) – a symbol of perseverance and good fortune in Japanese culture. The vivid red and black tones contrast beautifully with the warm wood grain, which has developed a rich patina over time.
Handcrafted and hand-painted in the traditional manner of the Tōhoku region, this piece bears the artist’s stamp on the bottom.
