Japanese Aka-Raku Matcha Chawan with Flying Fish, 1970s

Dimensions: height 8 cm, diameter 11.5 cm.

The bowl is decorated with a flying fish (tobiuo) above stylised waves. The motif is executed in an incised, sgraffito-like technique, so the pale lines stand out sharply against the red ground.

With its organic, slightly irregular shape, the bowl sits comfortably and securely in the hand—ideal for matcha in a tea setting, but also perfect for a small coffee, a dessert, or simply as a decorative object on a shelf or in a display cabinet.

Condition: very good, with only light traces of use and natural crackle consistent with raku.
