Japanese Antique Ceramic Jar, Kame – 1900s
Large Japanese ceramic jar from the Meiji period, with a powerful, restrained form and a beautifully organic surface.
Dimensions: height 67 cm, diameter 53 cm. Weight: 32 kg.
The broad shoulder, slightly everted rim, and full rounded body give this piece a strong sculptural presence.
The jar has a rich, earthy palette with deep brown and rust tones and subtle variations in sheen. Incised lines are visible on the body, possibly marks or firing traces, together with natural irregularities from the firing process, which give the object additional character and depth.
Originally, this would have been a kame, a large Japanese storage jar, but today it works beautifully as a decorative object in a minimalist, wabi-sabi, or eclectic interior. Striking with large branches or loose flowers, or simply on its own as a calm sculptural accent.
In very good condition in proportion to its age, with normal signs of age appropriate to the object. A unique and elegant piece with strong presence, warmth, and natural beauty.
