Product Details

This refined Japanese buyō (dance/kabuki-themed) doll is presented in an original glass display case with a black lacquered wooden frame and a gold-toned backing.

Display dimensions: height 64.5 cm, width 48.5 cm, depth 33 cm.

The wooden name plaque reads 藤娘 (Fuji Musume), literally “Wisteria Maiden.” This refers to a classic theme from Japanese kabuki and dance repertoire, where elegance, youth, and fleeting beauty take centre stage. The wisteria motif is also subtly echoed in the doll’s decorative elements.

The figure wears richly layered, silk-like garments in pink, red, and gold. Her deep black hair appears to sweep in the wind, giving the composition a rare sense of movement within a display setting. Notably, the back of the case bears a handwritten dedication with the date Shōwa 36 (1961)—a strong provenance detail that enhances its collector appeal.

Condition is good and well cared for, with only minor age-appropriate traces.
