Japanese Lacquered Lunchbox, 1960s–70s
Japanese wooden lunchbox from the 1960s–70s, featuring a warm reddish-brown lacquered finish and inspired by the traditional warigo-bako, a Japanese box used for storing and carrying meals.
Dimensions: H 10 × W 25.5 × D 14.5 cm
The rectangular box features gold-coloured Japanese calligraphy on the front and a decorative kamon, a traditional Japanese family crest, on the lid. The dark corner joints and visible wood grain give the piece an understated, refined character.
Inside, a removable tray with three compartments sits above a larger storage compartment. This practical arrangement was originally designed to keep different dishes separate.
Today, the box can also be used to store stationery, jewellery or other personal belongings. A characterful piece of Japanese lacquerware that complements minimalist and wabi-sabi interiors.
Good vintage condition with normal scratches, areas of wear and minor signs of use consistent with age.
