Japanese Hai-yū Sansui Landscape Vase by Setsufū, c. 1970s
Large Japanese ceramic vase with ash glaze and a painted mountain landscape, signed by Setsufū.
Dimensions: height 32 cm, diameter 29 cm. Weight: 8 kg.
The vase has a strong rounded body with a short cylindrical neck and a broad, balanced shoulder. Around the surface runs a refined sansui landscape with mountains, water, trees, small houses, a bridge, and a small boat. The decoration is executed in soft blue tones, green, and earthy colours, partly raised within the glaze, giving the landscape extra depth. The beige-grey hai-yū ash glaze gives the surface a natural, lively character, with subtle crazing and iron speckles in the clay.
A large and decorative piece of Japanese ceramics with strong presence, yet still restrained in character. Beautiful as a standalone vase, as an ikebana object, or as a sculptural accent in a calm contemporary interior.
The vase is signed on the underside and is in good condition, with no damage.
Complete with original wooden tomobako and signed ukon-fu protective cloth.
