Luxurious Tsugaru-nuri Hina Lacquer Accessories, Fukushi Shikki, 1960s
Luxurious set of Tsugaru-nuri lacquer accessories for a traditional hina doll display, complete in the original box with leaflet from the maker Fukushi Shikki of Hirosaki (Aomori).
Dimensions box: Height 13 cm, Width 33cm, Depth 33cm
The set is composed of several finely crafted wooden miniatures: two tall square trays with red interiors and small lacquer bowls for sake or sweets, a stackable four-tier jubako, a low carrying stand, and a richly detailed shelf unit with a tea kettle and tea utensils. Each piece is hand-lacquered in black urushi and then decorated with gold-coloured floral motifs and elegant scrollwork in classic Tsugaru style.
The accompanying leaflet describes Tsugaru-nuri as a traditional Japanese lacquerware with a long history and emphasises the intensive handwork and high quality. This set clearly reflects that: the warm red lacquer, the fine gold brushwork and the carefully shaped wooden forms give the accessories a truly luxurious presence.
Considering its age, the set is in remarkably beautiful condition. A rare, authentic quality find for collectors of hina dolls and Japanese lacquerware – perfect to enrich an existing hina display or to present on its own as a decorative ensemble in a Japanese-inspired interior corner.
