Set of 10 Japanese Porcelain Plates, circa 1940
Set of ten Japanese porcelain plates dating from around 1940, featuring traditional blue-and-white porcelain decorated with refined plum blossom motifs.
Dimensions per plate: H 3 × diameter 16 cm
The plates are decorated with white plum blossoms, known as ume, against a deep cobalt-blue background. Delicate branches and blossoms create a harmonious pattern surrounding a central floral motif.
In Japanese culture, plum blossoms symbolise resilience, renewal and the arrival of spring. The classic blue-and-white decoration reflects the rich tradition of Japanese porcelain from the first half of the 20th century.
Originally used as small plates for side dishes and other foods during Japanese meals. Today, they are equally suitable for presenting small appetisers or as decorative tableware.
An elegant set that complements both Japanese-inspired and contemporary interiors.
Good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age.
Sold as a set of ten plates.
