Set of 3 Traditional Japanese Bamboo Zaru Baskets, 1960s

Set of three traditional Japanese bamboo zaru from the Shōwa period.

The low, round baskets are handwoven and show a beautiful natural variation in colour and patina. They were originally used for collecting, sorting and drying herbs. Japanese calligraphic inscriptions are applied to the baskets.

Today, they are particularly decorative as small storage baskets, fruit bowls or as a natural interior accent on a table, cabinet or open shelving.

In beautiful vintage condition, with normal signs of age and use that contribute to their authentic character.
