Set of Two Japanese Ceramic Shisa Lion-Dogs, 1980s
Decorative set of two small Japanese shisa figures, made of glazed ceramic and dating from the 1980s.
Dimensions per piece: height 11 cm, width 8 cm, depth 6 cm.
The figures represent traditional shisa, the Okinawan lion-dog guardians often placed in pairs as symbolic protectors against evil and misfortune. They have a strong yet charming expression, with open mouths, raised ears, curled manes, short legs and decorative tails.
The glaze combines a soft cream-coloured base with deep brown, amber and caramel tones. The glossy finish and lively drip glaze give the pieces a warm, handmade character.
The set is in perfect condition.
A charming and atmospheric pair of Japanese ceramic shisa, beautiful as a small decorative accent in a Japanese, wabi-sabi, vintage, bohemian or eclectic interior. Ideal for a cabinet, sideboard, bookshelf, entrance hall or as a symbolic protective object in the home.
