Vintage Flower Kokeshi by Okamoto Usaburo, 1970s

Small vintage kokeshi by the renowned master Okamoto Usaburo, with an understated cylindrical form and a warm natural wood surface. The doll has a dark lacquered hairstyle, fine eye lines and a subtle red mouth, giving her a quiet and restrained expression.

Dimensions: height 19 cm, diameter 7 cm.

The body is hand-painted with a refined Japanese camellia motif in soft red and green tones. The combination of the natural wood grain, dark hairstyle and floral decoration gives this small piece an elegant, poetic presence.

Signed on the side and fitted with a paper label bearing Usaburo’s hanko on the underside.

A beautiful compact kokeshi within the Japanese sōsaku tradition, strong as a subtle collector’s object or as a small Japanese interior accent.
