Vintage Japanese Bamboo Harvest Basket / Decorative Storage Basket, 1960s
Decorative vintage Japanese bamboo harvest basket dating from the 1960s.
Dimensions: height 36 cm, width 48 cm, depth 37 cm.
Handwoven from warm natural bamboo, this basket has a strong rectangular form with softly rounded corners. The open weave, thick bamboo rim and vertical reinforcements create a sturdy, beautifully crafted appearance. Cut-out handles on both short sides made it practical for carrying harvested vegetables, herbs, flowers or other materials.
The front features a weathered red Japanese marking that adds character and a striking graphic element to the piece.
Today, it serves beautifully as a decorative Japanese interior object while also functioning as practical storage for textiles, throws, magazines, dried flowers or other decorative items. It fits effortlessly into Japanese, wabi-sabi, rustic, country, minimalist and eclectic interiors.
The basket remains in beautiful vintage condition with normal signs of age and use, consistent with its history and original purpose.
