Vintage Japanese Bamboo Basket, 1970s

Highly decorative vintage Japanese bamboo basket, dating from the 1970s. The basket is handwoven in warm natural bamboo and has a low, wide form with gently rising sides.

Dimensions: height 16 cm, diameter 64 cm.

The basket has a striking large format and beautifully rhythmic weaving. The base is stronger and more openly woven in a square lattice pattern, while the sides are finer and more densely constructed. The broad rounded rim is carefully wrapped and has a beautiful graphic character through its darker accents and light traces of use.

Thanks to its low and wide form, this basket works beautifully as a decorative bowl, display basket or centerpiece on a large table, low cabinet, counter or in a retail interior. It also remains stylish and calm when filled with textiles, dried flowers, fruit, paper goods or small objects.
