Vintage Japanese Hibachi, 1930s – Minimalist Plant Stand
A sleek and refined hibachi from Japan, crafted in the 1930s.
Dimensions: height 25 cm, diameter 27 cm.
Originally used as a charcoal brazier to keep coals warm, this piece now serves as a stylish and timeless interior accent.
Finished in dark brown urushi lacquer with red-tinted underlayers, following the Negoro-nuri tradition, where the red subtly emerges through the darker surface. This lustrous finish highlights the clean cylindrical form and gives the piece a modern, almost sculptural presence.
Inside is a removable metal liner, once used to hold the hot coals. The interior shows natural aging with traces of oxidation — authentic details that reveal the object’s history and use.
Today, this hibachi is highly appreciated as a plant stand, flower pot, or decorative accent, adding a touch of Japanese refinement to modern, industrial, or wabi-sabi interiors.
A perfect balance of simplicity, craftsmanship, and elegance — an object that effortlessly bridges past and present.
