Vintage Japanese Kokeshi by Kazuo Takamizawa, 1970s
This vintage Japanese sōsaku kokeshi is a charming work by Kazuo Takamizawa, dating from the 1970s. The doll has a soft, rounded form with a large dark hairstyle, a small wooden hair ornament on top, and a calm face with fine, restrained eye lines.
Dimensions: height 18.5 cm, diameter 8 cm.
The kimono is finished in warm red tones and decorated with a lively floral design in soft yellow, cream and black accents. The stylised flowers seem to move gently across the surface, giving the kokeshi a playful yet refined character. The combination of the red body, dark hairstyle and subtle graphic details is typical of the quiet elegance found in Takamizawa’s work.
The underside has the original hanko stamp/signature of the artist.
In good vintage condition, with light signs of use consistent with age.
A warm and decorative collector’s piece that works beautifully as a Japanese accent in a stylish contemporary interior.
