Vintage Sōsaku Kokeshi “Seiya” by Kazuo Takamizawa, 1990s

Elegant vintage sōsaku kokeshi by Kazuo Takamizawa, a highly regarded Japanese kokeshi artist. The wooden doll has a soft, rounded form with a large black hairstyle and a small decorative hair element on top. The face is delicately detailed with fine eye lines and a small red mouth.

Dimensions: height 23 cm, diameter 9 cm.

The kimono is finished in calm green tones with a warm natural wood centre and a subtle red accent. The lower part is richly decorated with fan-like incised floral or grass motifs, combined with small wood-burned details. The soft colour palette, graphic linework and rounded silhouette give this kokeshi a serene and refined presence.

A distinctive collector’s piece within the Japanese sōsaku kokeshi tradition, beautiful as a decorative accent in a stylish interior. Marked on the underside with a stamp, label and handwritten date, presumably 28 September 1998.

Condition: beautiful vintage condition with light signs of use consistent with age; well preserved and decoratively strong.
