Vintage Japanese Kokeshi by Masae Fujikawa, 1970s

This vintage Japanese sōsaku kokeshi is an elegant work by Masae Fujikawa, recognizable by its soft rounded form, large dark hairstyle and calm, refined facial expression.

Dimensions: height 18 cm, diameter 7 cm.

The kokeshi wears a warm red kimono with darker shading and a finely detailed graphic design. The front shows a stylized pattern with fan-like floral forms, white dotted details and an incised lattice motif that recalls woven textile. On top of the hairstyle is a red hair ornament with carved lines, adding a playful yet refined detail to the piece.

The deep red tones, black hairstyle and subtle decorative details give this kokeshi a quiet but strong presence.

A beautiful collector’s piece, but also a stylish small accent on a cabinet, shelf or beside ceramics in a contemporary interior.

The original maker’s sticker label is present on the underside.
