Vintage Japanese Sōsaku Kokeshi by Miyama Keiji, ca. 1960s–1970s

Elegant vintage Japanese sōsaku kokeshi, made by Miyama Keiji and presumably dating from the 1960s–1970s.

Dimensions: height 24 cm, diameter 10 cm.

The kokeshi has a beautiful rounded form, with a calm face partly hidden behind the decorative kimono. The deep turquoise green colour contrasts beautifully with the warm natural wood tone of the face and the dark black-brown reverse.

The front is delicately painted with Japanese landscape motifs, including pine trees, cloud-like forms and fine white brushstrokes. The subtle gold-coloured accents are worked as small tree forms, adding extra depth and elegance to the piece.

The underside is signed and bears the maker’s mark (label).

In good vintage condition, with normal light signs of use and age consistent with its age, material and handmade character.
