Vintage Fish-Shaped Serving Board “Salmon”, Japan, 1960s

This striking fish-shaped serving board was originally designed to present fish dishes in style—think smoked salmon, trout, or a cold buffet.

Dimensions: height 3 cm, width 102 cm, depth 24 cm.

The design is wonderfully graphic: a warm wooden center panel with a framed outline, finished with a cast metal head and tail. The head is richly detailed with an open mouth, eye, and gill lines; towards the tail, the relief transitions into scales and fins.

On the reverse, there is a patent mark, partially worn from use and age, which suits the utilitarian, “designed object” character of the piece. Today it works not only as a serving board for fish, sushi, or tapas, but also as an original display in a shop or kitchen, or as a bold styling object on a sideboard or open shelving.

Condition: beautiful vintage condition with normal signs of use and patina. The wood remains well cared for with light marks; the metal shows an authentic, soft ageing, and there is visible wear to the finish on the underside.
