Product Details

Traditional black lacquer with deep red accents, a high rim, and a pronounced relief: this Japanese tray is made to be both admired and used.

Dimensions: height 7.5 cm, width 54 cm, depth 27 cm.

At the centre is a floral design executed in the Kamakura-bori technique, in which the motif is first carved into the wood and then finished and polished with coloured lacquer. This creates the characteristic sense of depth, with crisp contours, subtle shifts in sheen, and shadow lines. Surrounding the flower is a fine, scale-like pattern that adds extra texture; the exterior continues the same red-and-black finish, giving the piece a fully finished look from every angle.

Today, the tray works beautifully as a serving tray for tea, aperitifs, or breakfast, but also as a display platform on a low table or sideboard. Ideal for grouping ceramics, incense, small objects, or a compact ikebana arrangement, bringing a calm, curated feel to the setting.

Condition: good, used condition with visible scratches and wear to the surface and edges; sturdy and functional.
