Japanese Seto-yaki Ikebana Vase by Kato Shō, 1980s
Elegant Japanese ikebana vase by the Seto ceramic artist Kato Shō, signed on the underside and presented with its original tomobako, yellow ukon-fu protective cloth, and accompanying documents.
Dimensions: height 22 cm, diameter 20 cm.
The vase has a strong rounded form with a restrained neck and two small hand-shaped decorative lugs. The surface shows a rich yūsai glaze with a rough, mineral texture: pale grey near the top, gradually shifting into warm earthy tones and deep blue-green nuances around the base. A quiet yet expressive ceramic work, ideal for ikebana or as a sculptural object in a calm, contemporary interior.
The set is complete with its wooden tomobako, ukon-fu cloth, and documentation. The vase is in perfect condition, with no damage.
Kato Shō (1927–2001) was an important Japanese Seto ceramic artist, awarded in Japan and exhibited internationally. His work is closely connected to the Akazu/Seto tradition and is appreciated for its powerful glazes and sculptural forms.
