A characterful Japanese tanuki from the 1980s, crafted in Shigaraki earthenware.

Dimensions: H 37 × W 25 × D 25 cm.

The richly detailed figure is finished in warm shades of deep brown, cream and ochre, with a lively glaze that highlights its expressive features and finely textured fur.

The tanuki wears a large straw hat and holds a rake, gathering gold-coloured coins towards himself. This symbolises the attraction of wealth, prosperity and success in business. The traditional sake flask and account book also reflect Japanese good-luck symbolism.

The back of the straw hat bears a Shigaraki stamp, while a sticker label is also preserved on the belly.
