Antique Japanese Mino Rain Cape in Rice Straw, ca. 1940–1950

Traditional Japanese mino (蓑), handmade from rice straw and natural plant fibres.
Dimensions: height 130 cm, width 70 cm, depth 5 cm.

The densely bound layers of straw provided natural protection against rain and snow. Mino were worn in northern Honshu and Hokkaido, where additional protection was needed against heavy rainfall and snowfall.

The natural fibres, organic form and visible handmade construction make this an authentic Japanese interior and wall object with a warm, time-worn character.

Good vintage condition with normal signs of age and use consistent with the material and period.
