Antique Japanese Tansu Chest, 1900s — with Hidden Drawer
Characterful Meiji-era Japanese tansu with beautifully worn black lacquer revealing warm red undertones—an evocative, wabi-sabi patina that adds depth and presence.
Dimensions: H 52 cm × W 95.5 cm × D 43.5 cm
Behind the twin doors you’ll find two wide drawers plus two smaller drawers, one of which conceals a small hidden drawer—a charming, traditional feature. The left door locks with an internal metal pin; the central lock has no key, yet the cabinet closes securely. Robust riveted hardware and side carry handles complete the piece.
A distinctive, authentic chest that brings Japanese craftsmanship and history into a contemporary interior—ideal as a low storage piece or sculptural accent for ceramics, textiles, or art.
