Large Japanese Sōsaku Kokeshi by Toa Sekiguchi, ca. 1960s–1970s

Large vintage Japanese sōsaku kokeshi, made by Toa Sekiguchi and dating from circa 1960s–1970s.

Dimensions: height 38 cm, diameter 13 cm.

This kokeshi has an elegant, elongated shape with a softly rounded head and a calm, dark finish on the reverse. The front is richly painted with a colourful bird motif, surrounded by decorative details in gold, green, red, orange and soft neutral tones.

The combination of the simple form and the fine, colourful painting gives the piece a warm and refined appearance. Thanks to its size, the kokeshi displays beautifully as a standalone decorative object, but also fits perfectly within a collection of Japanese folk art or sōsaku kokeshi.

The underside bears the signature and stamp of the maker.

In beautiful vintage condition, with normal light signs of use and age consistent with its age, material and handmade character.
