Historic Architectural Ornament with Male Head, c. 1900, Kingdom of Hungary, Romania
Historic architectural ornament dating from c. 1890–1915, originating from the former Kingdom of Hungary, in present-day Romania.
Height 22.5 cm × width 15 cm × depth 14 cm.
Cast in plaster, the ornament depicts a distinctive male head in deeply projecting relief, featuring a moustache, pointed goatee and elegantly draped neckerchief. Its expressive facial features and refined modelling reflect the decorative architectural tradition of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The historic D.C.C.P.C.N. Timiș stamp remains clearly visible and legible on the reverse. This marking refers to a former regional authority for culture and national heritage in Romania. Through extensive research and comparison with other historic pieces, we have been able to reconstruct the stamp. The additional photograph shows a reconstruction of the stamp.
The warm ochre patina, traces of the original finish and natural wear lend the ornament an authentic character. A unique piece of architectural heritage, rich in history, that today makes a distinctive sculptural statement in a contemporary interior.
The piece shows normal signs of age, localised wear and minor losses consistent with its age.
