Japanese Industrial Pulley Element, Wooden Interior Object, 1930–1950

A heavy Japanese industrial wooden element, originally part of a larger pulley or lifting construction.

Dimensions: height 37 cm, diameter 29 cm. Weight: 17 kg.

This massive object has a powerful cylindrical form with deep horizontal grooves and a central axle opening. On the top, an old iron reinforcement around the opening is visible, while the sides are defined by rhythmic profiling, deep traces of use and a beautiful contrast between dark black-brown wood and lighter worn areas.

The patina is exceptional: old wear, drying cracks, dark colour variations and warm exposed wood tones clearly reveal its long industrial use.

Today, this pulley element works beautifully as a sculptural interior object in a minimalist, contemporary or Japanese-inspired space. It can stand on its own as a strong object, but can also be used as the base for a composition with ceramics, art, ikebana, a plant or bonsai. The combination of weight, texture and form gives the piece a calm yet monumental presence.

In beautiful weathered condition, with signs of use, old cracks, wear, colour variations, small imperfections and patina consistent with age and original function.
