Product Details

A beautiful pair of handmade Japanese meoto yunomi teacups from the 1980s, featuring warm earthy tones and a wonderfully expressive glaze.

Dimensions: Large cup: H 8 × Ø 7 cm / Small cup: H 7 × Ø 6.5 cm.

The hand-thrown stoneware displays rich shades of chestnut brown, ochre, moss green and honey yellow. The flowing glaze creates elegant drip patterns, giving each cup its own distinctive, organic appearance. The unglazed foot reveals the natural clay and subtle traces of the potter’s wheel.

The two cups differ in size and fit perfectly inside one another. In Japan, such pairs are known as 'meoto yunomi': traditionally, the larger cup was intended for the husband and the smaller for the wife, symbolising togetherness.

Both cups feature two incised Japanese potter’s marks on their undersides.

A beautiful example of Japanese ceramic craftsmanship, bringing together natural materials, warm colour variations and simplicity. An elegant pair for everyday use or as a decorative wabi-sabi accent in a contemporary interior.
