Vintage Japanese Bamboo Harvest Basket / Zaru, 1960s–1970s
Decorative vintage Japanese bamboo basket, dating from the 1960s–1970s.
Dimensions: height 19 cm, diameter 49 cm.
The basket is handwoven in natural bamboo. The open geometric weave, sturdy wrapped rim and cross-shaped reinforcement in the base give the piece a distinctive and beautifully crafted appearance.
This type of open bamboo basket was used as a zaru or harvest basket, for gathering, airing, sorting or drying natural materials such as vegetables, herbs, leaves or other produce. Its light, open structure made it practical for daily use, while today it is especially valued as a decorative object.
Beautiful as a bowl for textiles, paper goods, dried flowers or small objects, but also as a natural accent in a Japanese, wabi-sabi, rustic, country-style or eclectic interior.
The basket is in lovely vintage condition, with normal signs of use and age consistent with its material, age and handmade character.
A warm Japanese everyday object with plenty of character, natural texture and a strong decorative presence.
