Japanese Wooden Wall Panels, Antique Furniture Door Panels, Set of 2, ca. 1890
This set of two Japanese wooden door panels, originally from a piece of furniture, has a strong yet calm presence thanks to its clean construction: wide horizontal slats set within a solid frame.
Dimensions: height 86 cm, width 90 cm, depth 3 cm (per panel).
The wood has gently darkened over time, with warm tones that remain visible in the grain and shift beautifully depending on the light.
Because these are furniture panels, they are compact and relatively flat—ideal to hang as a diptych, side by side or separately, but also very attractive simply leaned against a wall as a natural backdrop. They work especially well behind ceramics, a sculpture, a low display of objects, or as a visual “anchor” above a sideboard or bench.
Light signs of age and use are visible along the edges and across the surface, giving the panels an authentic, beautifully lived-in character.
