Set of Four Vintage Japanese Nesting Bamboo Baskets, c. 1950
Highly decorative set of four vintage Japanese bamboo baskets, consisting of one taller basket and three lower baskets that fit neatly inside each other. The set dates from c. 1950 and has a warm, artisanal appearance.
Overall dimensions: height 29 cm, width 32 cm, depth 20 cm.
The baskets are handwoven in bamboo and finished in warm reddish-brown to honey-brown tones. The taller outer basket has a rectangular shape with rounded corners, small feet, a reinforced upper rim and its original cord. The three lower baskets fit inside the larger basket and can also be used separately as decorative trays, storage baskets or display objects.
Beautiful details include the fine woven structure, sturdy bamboo bands and subtle colour variations caused by age and use. The reddish-brown exterior gives the set a rich, almost lacquered appearance, while the lighter interiors and rims reveal the natural texture and craftsmanship of the bamboo.
Originally, this type of basket was used for practical household purposes, storage or transport. Today, the set works beautifully as a decorative interior accent: as a storage set, display basket, retail presentation piece, tea accessory or atmospheric object in a Japanese, wabi-sabi, vintage, bohemian or eclectic interior.
The set is in beautiful vintage condition, with normal signs of age, light wear, small irregularities and natural colour variations consistent with its age, material and handwoven construction.
A particularly charming and functional Japanese bamboo set with a strong decorative presence. Beautiful as a high-end interior accent, either presented together or used separately.
